Innovation Report

Innovation is the successful exploitation of new ideas. Innovation matters because it can deliver high value-added products and services, new, cleaner and more efficient production processes and improved business models.

The following web pages give an update on implementing the commitments made in the action plan in the Innovation Report, 'Competing in the global economy: the innovation challenge', which was published in December 2003. The information is organised under the six key themes:

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER Between business and the science base, from business to business, and in collaboration with international partners
INNOVATION IN PROCUREMENT Using Government's enormous purchasing power to stimulate innovation
SKILLS and WORKPLACESupporting high level skills and high performance workplaces
REGIONAL INNOVATION
REGULATORY FRAMEWORKIntellectual property rights, standards and regulations that support innovation
SMALL BUSINESSESSupporting entrepreneurship and small businesses as key sources of innovation

The Secretary of State for Trade & Industry has been driving forward the science, innovation and knowledge economy agenda across Government through a Ministerial team, and our stakeholders are actively participating in roll-out of the innovation agenda through the Innovation Stakeholder Group.
