Living Innovation Library
Living Innovation was first launched as a series of innovation lectures in 1992. They were designed to stimulate UK business - particularly SMEs - to embrace the innovation agenda. The inaugural lecture was an inspiring presentation by Akio Morita of Sony. Since then business leaders from a wide range of organisations have shared their views and ideas. These include Sir Richard Branson of Virgin, Lord David Puttnam, Sir Jackie Stewart, Tim Smit from the Eden Project, Simon Woodroffe of Yo! and Karan Bilimoria of Cobra Beer.

Presented by Mark Webster, former Business Editor with ITN, the programme includes insights from high profile innovators, such as Richard Reed of Innocent Drinks.

Complete 2004 Programme

The theme of the event was Adding Value to Your Business.
Two of Britain's most successful entrepreneurs - Simon Woodroffe, of YO! and Sir Christopher Evans, of Merlin Bionsciences Ltd - discussed practical ways in which UKbusinesses could innovate to compete.
The event included case histories from three organisations who have successfully embraced innovation to inspire their people, create new products and connect with the marketplace.

Under the headings of People, Attitudes and Technology the 2003 event looked at six successful, innovative, British companies - three represented on video and three on stage. The Innovation Group at the DTI also launched Innovation Quest - a search for outstanding examples of innovation taking place in UK businesses and organizations.

Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin, covered issues such as encouraging people and innovation, managing risk, the Virgin brand, selecting key staff and attracting finance. The programme was transmitted to 40 locations in the UK and watched by over 10,000 people.

This was the first lecture to be broadcast by satellite. Keith Oates, then Deputy Chairman of Marks & Spencer plc talked about the company's willingness to learn from any source - from suppliers, franchise partners, customers, wherever expertise is to be found.
